Zizina otis labradus is probably a synonym of Zizina labradus, but both taxa are currently active on iNat.

ALA/AFD uses ssp:

BOLD Systems uses the separate species and is probably the one to use but I'm not certain:

I agree - should we swap Zizina otis labradus into Zizina labradus?

However need to consider which "species" the taxon "labradon" (which occurs on Cape York and I assume at least NG) - is it part of labradus or otis?

Sorry @pewin I don't quite understand - is there the ≡Zizina labradus as well as something called labradon? That seems weird and just an incorrect latin spelling?

Sorry I got the name wrong (shouldn't rely on my memory). Braby lists two subspecies of Zizina otis in Australia - labradus that covers most of mainland Australia, and labdalon occurring on Cape York (and presumably Torres Strait Islands and New Guinea). If all the records of Z. o. labradus are linked to Z. labradus, will this be correct for this other taxa (which currently isn't included in iNaturalist as an option - the one record that appears on Boigu Island is assigned to Z. labradus).

ALA obviously has some incorrect records (https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:d5b15d7a-513a-4bdd-86b7-040c5cc352b3) but it is a separate taxa - just unclear whether it should remain with Z. otis, or be considered a subspecies of Z. labradus.

Have to say not having a globally accepted list of butterfly species (unlike birds which I am more familiar with - despite all the debates) makes these sort of decisions difficult.

So the question is are Common Grass-blues at the tip of Cape York a subspecies of the Asian/African species or of the Australasian species? Biogeographically the latter makes sense but not certain if there is a reference to support either way
