I have been surveying Woodwardia fimbriata locations in the central Hood Canal area and have observed a large population on the south end of the Toanados Peninsula. These are spread out over a few miles of shoreline. Mostly on S and E facing steep embankments with some seepage. Other populations I know of are located west of Tahuya, north of Hoodsport and between Pleasant Harbor and the Dosewallips River.

What an incredible encounter! I was just past Panorama Point, searching for White-tailed Ptarmigan when I turned around and saw it running up the snow towards me. It stopped and stared at me for a minute, before bouncing up the snow and continuing up the ridge following before going up and over the ridge and out of view. I got some great photos and took a few videos as well. Quite a surreal experience.

About 60 degrees out and a pika was barking its alarm at us. I saw its hindquarters disappear into the rocks, where it continued to bark its alarm. We observed the area for about 35 mins but did not see or hear any others. Picture shows its home only. I have a video of its calls but do not see a way to upload that.
