Found under a tomato leaf, it looks like a cocoon to me with the fibres attached.
It reminds me of a small moth I've seen in my garden.

I hadn't seen one of these Hyposoter didymator cocoons for ages, so delighted in taking some new photos. I saw the hole, so assumed it was vacant. Heaven forbid I would notice the wasp looking out at me!!

Description

Australian Native solitary bee - unid
Identified as Megachile Eutricharaea maculariformis on Bowerbird by Bernhard Jacobi: "If the specimens illustrated on PaDIL really are ferox, this one isn´t. In ferox female the 5th tergum is entirely covered with orange tomentum, while in Dianne´s bee this is restricted to the apical margin of the 5th tergum. Also the shape of the metasoma here is more leaf-shaped. So this must be a Megachile (Eutricharaea) species. Even if the more western M. (E.) chrysopyga looks similar, I would opt for the common eastern M. (E.) maculariformis."

Description

I had a bit of a hold up with my insecty pics. We had a problem with our website, and it had to be wound back in time. This meant that lots! of work I'd done, I had to repeat. This is very dull so it took me a long time to redo it (plus I had a trip to Japan).

Anyway, a beautiful little moth attracted to light at Sisters Beach. I think a Noctuid, but I can't find a match.
