Not in a garden or tended. This was mowed down a few days after I took these pics. Probably planted at some point, now it's just popping up in a lawn.

Description
This thornless legume is a low-growing shrub with pinnately compound leaves. It's stems are red on the sunny side. I found two fruits still attached from last season. The audio is from shaking them--sounds like tiny maracas. Opened one to see fruit structure and seeds. Seems to be a two-chambered elongated sphere containing ~5mm long black beans.

I could use some help on this one. I believe it is A. mollissimus based on the characteristics, but that would push the distribution into Idaho, where it is not listed in data from USDA, Biota of N. America, or the Idaho Fish & Game plant species index. Observed at appx. 3100’ elev. in the Chalk Hills, a ‘badlands’ area of siliceous ash, silt, and sand that is reminiscent of environs found in SW states.
